Zune Linux - ZunuxWith the Freescale iMX31L processor, we already knew Zune could run Linux - but who was gonna be the first to try?   Well, according to one fearless warranty-voiding individual, that prospect is now at least one step closer to reality. In a post on ZuneBoards, “Mys Videl” claims that he’s managed to get Linux on Zune “partway working,” currently only able to be booted while synced and with limited capabilities. While Videl’s not willing to let the secret loose just yet (or even provide pics of it in action for that matter) he is promising to release it as open source when its finished, and open it up to beta testing before that. Exactly when that might happen, he isn’t saying.

Zune and Xbox 360 - Wireless Sharing of Music, Movies and PicturesMicrosoft has said that Zune would get the capability to connect wirelessly to the Xbox 360 gaming console and PCs. Company man Bill Gates said in a statement that Zune would soon be integrated with other platforms offered by the company. This would include the Vista operating system - good job really - Microsoft has been getting plenty of flack from all sides with regards to the lack of Vista support.  Gates said in a statement: “We will take it even further by connecting the Zune to the Windows PC or Xbox. There is a lot more coming there.”Gates further said on Zune’s capabilities: “We’re changing entertainment from something you do in isolation to connected entertainment.”

The Zune digital media player will come preloaded with music videos when it is released later this year. Videos from artists including UK pop band Hot Chip will feature on the device, following a deal between the software giant and music company EMI. “Apple has been an important partner in building the digital music market but any well-funded serious entrant has got to be good news for the artists and industry,” Jeff Kempler, executive vice president of EMI unit Virgin Records America, told Reuters. The new deal between Microsoft and EMI would see music videos already loaded on to the device. EMI artists that could appear on the devices screen include alternative rockers 30 seconds to Mars. The record company said it expected its videos would be preloaded alongside offerings from other record labels. A spokesperson for EMI said that the label was still in discussions about other content deals with Microsoft.

So, what can we expect to see from Zune.
